Jake Auer Discusses Decision to Transfer to WVU

West Virginia fifth-year senior Jake Auer talked about his relationships and what led him to Morgantown.

Auer played his first four years in college at Rockhurst, a small Division II school in Kansas City, before deciding to transfer to WVU.

Auer, who averaged 10.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game at Rockhurst last year, decided to transfer when the head coach stepped down.

“I decided to enter the transfer portal because why not,” Jake Auer said on Tuesday.

Auer called now teammate Tucker DeVries when he found out DeVries was committing to West Virginia. The two knew each other from playing against each other in high school.

“Why not do something crazy with this last year,” Auer said.

Auer is now embracing a new role with the Mountaineers by emulating the players on the opposing team in practice with the scout team.

“It’s new, but it’s a role that I have enjoyed,” Auer said.

The Mountaineers are currently 2-1 after losing to Pitt in the Backyard Brawl. They will take on Iona at home on Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. EST.
