Arizona vs. West Virginia Predictions

West Virginia will be on the road this week as they face Arizona in their first-ever matchup.

Both teams are struggling looking to get back on track and finish the season on a high note.

Our staff gives their predictions:

Ryan Roddy: Winning this game will do a lot for either team. West Virginia was hit with the injury bug and is looking to get everyone back healthy and return to full potential. Arizona is looking to end a three-game skid and show what they got as the season falls down the stretch. This game should come down to defense. While Arizona’s defense is better at forcing turnovers, the Mountaineers’ defensive front is not one to be taken lightly. Both offenses have high-scoring potential but need to find sparks and consistency. In the end, no matter who is under center for WVU, Nicco Marchiol or Garrett Greene I predict they take this one in Tuscon. Expect a strong rushing attack out of the gate from West Virginia.

Tanner Mountz: West Virginia’s season is hanging in the balance leading up to their matchup with Arizona. With a bye week looming on the other side with the chance for the team to get a much needed reset to finish out the year. This feels like a do or die game for the Mountaineers. The Wildcat air attack is going to threaten West Virginia for a majority of the game and create plenty of explosive plays. WVU will have to slow the game down and limit the amount of possession to take the time and air out of the Tucson crowd. I’m not sure with all the injuries if the Mountaineers will have the fire power to keep up with the Wildcats’ explosive passing game. The WVU defense will need to play the best game of their season to help keep West Virginia in it.

Arizona 34, WVU 20

Joe Antenucci: A lot of question marks in this Big 12 matchup down in Tucson, Arizona. These two teams have never played each other so it’ll be interesting how the outcome of this one shapes out for two teams needing to get back in the win column. Whether it’s Greene or Marchiol I expect WVU to end their two game losing streak with a road win here.

WVU 27, Arizona 20
