WVU redshirt sophomore and backup quarterback Nicco Marchiol shared his thoughts on the Mountaineers’ loss against No. 16 Kansas State on Saturday night.
“I found out I was going in right when we came out of the half. It’s something we talk about all the time. Injuries happen and it’s the next play mentality, next guy mentality,” Marchiol said.
Marchiol entered the game following halftime after starter Garrett Greene suffered minor injuries.
During the second half, Marchiol made multiple errors, including crucial missed throws on third downs. He admitted he was “a little inaccurate” and that his mistakes were “self-inflicted.” Big time offensive players Jahiem White and Wyatt Milum were also injured, causing the Mountaineer offense to lose their rhythm.
“It’s our duty to not skip a beat when one goes down, that’s what a team is,” Marchiol said.
Playing behind Greene for two years now, Marchiol shared the senior quarterback is an important mentor to him. Training and prepping as a starter, the backup is one of the most interesting positions in all of sports.
The Mountaineers hope to keep a short memory as they hit the road and take on Arizona next Saturday at 7 p.m. EST.
