WVU was represented by a pair of former players on teams that made it to the Conference Championships in the 2023-24 NFL season.
Ravens DB Daryl Worley finished the season on injured reserve, but his Ravens got the opportunity to host the AFC Championship game for the first time in franchise history. The Ravens fell to the Chiefs 17-10, leaving 49ers OT Colton McKivitz as the only former Mountaineer still playing this season.
Colton McKivitz started and played all 66 offensive snaps in the NFC Championship game against the Lions. The 49ers won 34-31 and now McKivitz will look to become the 13th former Mountaineer to win a Super Bowl championship and the first since Keith Tandy won Super Bowl LV as an assistant coach for the Tampa Bay Bucaneers.
Super Bowl LVIII is set for Sunday, Feb. 11 in Las Vegas with kickoff at 6:30 p.m. EST where McKivitz and the 49ers will be taking on the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch of Super Bowl LIV, which McKivitz did not play in as he was drafted later that year (Apr. 25, 2020 — selected No. 153 overall by San Francisco).
