After shutting out their opponents in the first quarter on Wednesday and Saturday, the West Virginia women’s basketball has became the first Division I team to hold its opponents scoreless in a quarter in consecutive games, with both shutouts coming in the first quarter.
In an 80-39 victory over Houston on Wednesday, the Mountaineers got off to a hot start shutting out the Cougars in the first quarter and scoring 17 points, the first time the program has done so in their 50-year history.
Then lightning struck twice, this time against Cincinnati on the road.
WVU would also shut out the Bearcats in the first quarter, scoring 15 points en route to a 72-43 win.
West Virginia is now 16-2 and will face No. 24 Iowa State, who they lost to earlier this month, on Jan. 27 in their next contest.
