Josh Eilert says we could see Akok Akok ‘in the coming weeks’

After collapsing during in WVU’s final exhibition game on Oct. 27, Akok Akok has been out for health related reasons.

On Tuesday though, interim head coach Josh Eilert hinted at Akok’s possible return to the court.

“That’s all up to the medical people. It’s trending in a positive direction. I think you’ll see him in the coming weeks for sure,” Eilert said.

Akok’s absence has been noticeable. Him along with other Mountaineers have been unavailable for various reasons, but Akok’s size would help WVU a lot in the front court. Eilert wouldn’t expand on what Akok is able to do quite yet, but he said he’s happy for him and that it seems like basketball will be returning to his life soon.

“I’m not going to get into what he can and can’t do. I’m just happy for him in terms of where it’s going,” Eilert said. “Could’ve been drastically different for him. You worry when something like that happens, basketball is 90 percent of life and you have to take that away from him. I don’t think that’s going to be the case whatsoever.”
