WVU gives update after Akok Akok suffers medical emergency in exhibition against George Mason

West Virginia’s Akok Akok appeared to collapse on the floor in the Mountaineers’ exhibition game against George Mason on Friday.

West Virginia men’s basketball said on social media that Akok suffered a medical emergency and that he was being transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown and that when made available, more information will be provided.

Akok was rushed to by medical personnel and he was down on the ground for more than 10 minutes. He would later be stretchered off, appearing to have part of his jersey torn, while also being connected to an IV.

The game would be resumed after both coaches agreed to resume play.

Akok is in his first season in the gold and blue, after spending three seasons at UConn, and then one season at Georgetown.
