West Virginian men’s basketball announced that RaeQuan Battle’s waiver to be immediately eligible to play this season has been denied by the NCAA.
Interim head coach Josh Eilert announced the decision, saying that WVU will appeal.
This comes after a long process between WVU and the NCAA to try to get Battle eligible to play this season.
“We have the RaeQuan Battle wavier looming over our head but I really think the NCAA’s going to do right by him and he’s going to get that,” Eilert said last week at Big 12 Media Days. “So I cross my fingers and I think that’s going to happen.”
Eilert’s gut feeling has turned out to be incorrect as the Montana State transfer who averaged 17.7 points per game last season, while shooting 46.9 percent from the field is currently ineligible to play. Battle is a two-time transfer having played at both Washington and Montana State.
