Full PFF Grades vs Oklahoma State

West Virginia dropped their second consecutive game with a 48-34 loss to Oklahoma State. They hung around and lead 24-20 in the fourth quarter until Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon II put on a show in the fourth.

But how did the individual players grade out?

This article will take a look at the Pro Football Focus grades from West Virginia’s game against Oklahoma State. The list will be split into offense and defense and list the grades from first to worst then discuss the notable highlights from the grades.

If you were curious about Ollie Gordon’s grade after the performance he put on, he was the highest graded offensive player for Oklahoma State at 80.7.

Offense

  • WR EJ Horton: 90.3 (20 snaps)
  • QB Garrett Greene: 71.8 (79 snaps)
  • HB Justin Johnson Jr.: 71.5 (33 snaps)
  • WR Preston Fox: 71.0 (41 snaps)
  • WR Devin Carter: 63.5 (49 snaps)
  • HB CJ Donaldson Jr.: 63.3 (44 snaps)
  • RT Doug Nester: 62.1 (79 snaps)
  • TE Treylan Davis: 61.9 (20 snaps)
  • C Zach Frazier: 61.6 (79 snaps)

EJ Horton was the highest graded player this week, becoming the first member of the PFF 90 Club since the Duquesne game Week 2. Horton was the lone player to grade out above 64.9 in run blocking with an 80.0 mark in that facet.

Garrett Greene didn’t grade out well in the passing game at only 58.3, but was the team’s highest graded runner at 77.8.

Justin Johnson finished with one more carry than CJ Donaldson and graded out better than Donaldson in the running game at 72.3 compared to 64.9 for Donaldson. His 33 snaps were more than his previous three games combined.

Preston Fox has put together his best game grades the last two weeks. He led the team in receptions and receiving yards and joined EJ Horton as the only players to grade out above 60.0 in the passing game.

Every starter on the offensive line graded out better in pass blocking than run blocking. Nick Malone also graded out like this while being used as a sixth offensive lineman in certain heavy packages.

Wyatt Milum had a team-leading 90.6 pass blocking grade in his return, but a 47.8 run blocking grade drags his grade down.

Kole Taylor had his lowest graded game on the season, with his 42.1 grade in the passing game being far and away a season low. He lost a fumble that was recovered by the Oklahoma State defense.

The defense according to the PFF data had a season-low seven pressures, seven quarterback hurries, zero sacks for the first time this season, ten missed tackles, two pass breakups, one interception, and a season-worst five penalties.

As you could probably expect with a sack total of zero, the defense had a season-low 51.1 pass rushing grade as a unit.

Tyrin Bradley led the defensive PFF grades this week, and he also led the team with only a 62.9 pass rushing grade.

Anthony Wilson recorded his first interception of the season and led the team with an 81.0 coverage grade. His overall grade was also a season high.

Fatorma Mulbah and Tomiwa Durojaiye both impressed as rotational pieces on the defensive line this week, with Durojaiye leading the team with 76.8 run defense grade.

Hershey McLaurin led the team with three pressures, with all of them being hurries as well.

Aubrey Burks had a team-leading three missed tackles, with led to a 35.2 tackling grade. He did however of one of the team’s two pass breakups.

Lee Kpogba led the team with a 79.8 tackling grade, with him not missing a tackle for the first time since the Duquesne game in Week 2.

Ben Cutter played better in his second career start than his first one. His run defense and tackling grades were both a lot better than last week against Houston.

Beanie Bishop had the other of the team’s two pass breakups, but he graded out poorly in run defense and tackling at 42.9 and 44.8 respectively.

Jared Bartlett had his lowest graded game of the season. His pass rushing grade of a 53.6 was also a season low.
