Former WVU quarterback Will Grier is going to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Grier shined in his final preseason game with the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday, throwing for 305 yards and two touchdowns against the Raiders. He found himself in the endzone twice, as well, rushing for two touchdowns and 53 yards on 10 carries. Grier was made aware before the game that it would be his last before being waived.
With the new contract, Grier joins his third NFL team of his career since he was drafted in 2019 by the Carolina Panthers. Grier’s former coach Mike McCarthy made it clear that, despite being released, he deserved a 53-man roster spot in the NFL. Instead, Grier will go to the Bengals’ practice squad, acting as their third-string QB behind the injured Joe Burrow and Jake Browning.
Browning, who went undrafted in the same 2019 class that Grier was in, will be getting his first shot in the NFL this upcoming season. As Grier’s career goes on and he plays similar to how he played this preseason, similar opportunities may be on the horizon for him.
