The NCAA Baseball Tournament is alive and well and as we enter Sunday, there are already two hosts eliminated and multiple four-seeds alive.
The SEC had a record eight hosts, but they also had the first host to be packing their bags. Auburn went 0-2 in their regional and were eliminated. In the Auburn Regional, there is also a possible Cinderella story occurring with Penn — the four seed — being the final team in the winner’s bracket heading into Sunday. Penn beat Auburn on Friday, and then beat Samford on Saturday.
Elsewhere in the SEC, there was weather impacting the play of games. In the Baton Rouge Regional, LSU and Oregon State did not play their 1-0 winner’s bracket game yet. It is set to be played today. Arkansas’s game against TCU is another 1-0 game that will be played on Sunday due to inclement weather on Saturday.
Vanderbilt — who won the SEC Tournament — lost in the winner’s bracket to Oregon on Saturday and are going to have to beat Xavier and Oregon again to force a Monday title game.
Wake Forest, South Carolina, Alabama, Virginia, and Indiana State, are all 2-0 heading into Sunday, needing to win one game before being beaten twice.
Hosts with one loss include Florida, Miami, Coastal Carolina, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Clemson.
The Big 12’s lone host Oklahoma State was eliminated after going 0-2. However, the Big 12 has Texas Tech as the 2-0 team in the Gainesville (Florida) Region. TCU could join them with a win on Sunday over Arkansas, while Texas is also 2-0 on the weekend in the Coral Gables (Miami) Regional. Oklahoma and West Virginia each have one loss and are going to play in elimination games on Sunday afternoon.
The remaining bracket can be found here.
