No. 6 West Virginia vs Texas Game Thread

It’s game two of a three-game series between No. 6 West Virginia and Texas. The Mountaineers are riding with Blaine Traxel as a win clinches at least a share of the Big 12 title. Texas is also still in title contention and needs to sweep the Mountaineers to have a chance.

Neither team is changing anything lineup wise from Thursday’s game one. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. on Longhorn Network.

First Inning
WVU: West Virginia gets on the board with a Landon Wallace home run in the first inning. JJ Wetherholt singled prior to Wallace’s at-bat, but was thrown out at first base after taking too wide of a turn. 1-0 WVU
Texas: The Longhorns wasted no time answering back as they used three consecutive hits to start the bottom of the first. The Longhorns then added another run on a sacrifice-fly. Eric Kennedy then hit a two-out, two-run homer the Longhorns added two more. 4-1 Texas

Second Inning
WVU: The Mountaineers go in order, including two strikeouts of Grant Hussey and Caleb McNeely. 4-1 Texas
Texas: Jared Thomas hits a two-run homer to center field, and the Longhorns are all over Traxel right now. 6-1 Texas. It is a home run derby for the home team as Dylan Campbell hits a solo homer to left. 7-1 Texas

Third Inning
WVU: West Virginia loads the bases with no outs, before Wetherholt and Wallace strike out. With two outs, Braden Barry beats out an infield single to score a run for the Mountaineers. 7-2 Texas
Texas: Traxel is able to work around a single, and finishes a clean inning as Texas still leads by five.

Fourth Inning
WVU: The Mountaineers put two runners on base, but Tevin Tucker strikes out looking to end the threat.
Texas: Texas gets one back as Porter Brown singles past the reach of Ellis Garcia. 8-2 Texas

Fifth Inning
WVU: The Mountaineers go in order, including strikeouts from Wallace and Barry.
Texas: Traxel retires the Longhorns in order. Mountaineers still trail by six.

Sixth Inning
WVU: The offense just can’t get going against The Longhorns. Two more strikeouts make it 12 total on the night for the Mountaineers. Texas starter Lebarron Johnson finishes his night going 5.1 innings, striking out 11, while giving up two runs on five hits.
Texas: Peyton Powell homers to left and Texas is continuing to pour it on. 9-2 Texas

Seventh Inning
WVU: Tevin Tucker singles, but that is all the Mountaineers can muster on offense.
Texas: Texas takes advantage of a WVU error, as they scored a run after a bad throw allowed their baserunners to both get into scoring position. 10-2 Texas

Eighth Inning
WVU: Mountaineers go in order again, with Wallace-Barry-Leonard.
Texas: The Longhorns don’t add anything else and hold an eight-run lead.

Ninth Inning
WVU: Sam White knocked home two on a single, but that is all West Virginia is able to get.

FINAL: Texas 10, WVU 4
