Winning ways continue for West Virginia, but Mountaineers stay put in the rankings

West Virginia baseball put together a 3-1 week during the past seven days, including a midweek win over Pittsburgh, but also two wins over Oklahoma — which also helped clinch their fourth consecutive Big 12 series.

With that, the Mountaineers stayed put at No. 12 by D1Baseball and No. 11 by Baseball America in their top 25 rankings. WVU dropped one spot to No. 16 in RPI after the series win, but still hold all the power in being a regional and possibly a super regional host.

The top eight schools by D1Baseball had a little bit of a shake up, including at the top with Wake Forest overtaking LSU for the No. 1 spot in the country. WVU trails Miami at No. 11 and Duke at No. 10 in D1Baseball’s rankings.

Baseball America was a lot nicer to the Big 12 than D1Baseball. Baseball America has two other teams not named West Virginia from the Big 12 Conference ranked in their top 25. No. 15 Texas Tech — who travels to WVU this weekend — is ranked as well as No. 20 Oklahoma State — who West Virginia took two of three from on the road.

West Virginia plays Pitt on the road as they look to sweep the three-game season series from the Panthers, before hosting Texas Tech in their final home series of the season this week.
