Freshman LB Josiah Trotter sustains lower-leg injury, requiring surgery

West Virginia head coach Neal Brown announced freshman linebacker Josiah Trotter suffered a lower-leg injury in practice last Tuesday and he will have surgery. Brown said Trotter’s timeline will mean he is going to be back at the end of the year at best.

Trotter is a freshman from Philadelphia, and was seen as a bright star in the 2023 class. Trotter was a four-star prospect at Saint Joseph’s Prep high school and had 75 tackles, two forced fumbles, three sacks and an interception as a senior. Trotter was one of the marquee signings of this year’s freshman class and he will now likely miss most of the entire 2023 regular season.

Brown said the news about Trotter is disappointing and that Trotter had practiced enough to have shown how good he can be, and that the surgery will take place towards the end of the month.
