West Virginia’s, along with the 13 other members of the new Big 12 now know who they are playing and when this upcoming fall in football as the Big 12 released the 2023 football schedules on Tuesday.
West Virginia’s entire football schedule with dates and times is now public. The schedule features three non-conference games, with two of them against Power Five opponents. The Mountaineers are also facing all four of the four new additions to the Big 12.
West Virginia’s first Big 12 game is on Sept. 23 versus Texas Tech, while the Mountaineers close their regular season on the road against Baylor on Nov. 25.
The non-conference games had already been set for some time, featuring Penn State week one on Sept. 2, Duequsne week two on Sept. 9, and then hosting Pitt week three on Sept. 16.
This is only the second time since Neal Brown has become head coach of the Mountaineers that West Virginia will start conference play at home. The Mountaineers faced Kansas at home to kick off Big 12 play last year.
The Mountaineers have one Thursday night game this year after having three a season ago. West Virginia travels to face former head coach Dana Holgorsen on Oct. 12. The Mountaineers’ bye week comes at the beginning of October, following their game against TCU, but before their game against Houston, meaning they will lose two days on the back end of the bye week due to playing Houston on a Thursday night.
West Virginia avoids facing Iowa State, Kansas State, Kansas, and Texas, teams West Virginia went 0-4 against in 2022.
