The West Virginia women’s basketball team will head on the road following a one game home stand, taking on TCU on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 2:00 p.m.
Their last time out, the Mountaineers (13-5, 4-3) defeated Texas Tech at the Coliseum by a score of 67-57. Jayla Hemingway led West Virginia with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while JJ Quinerly was the second Mountaineer to record a double-double in the game, with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Madisen Smith was the only other Mountaineer to score in double figures, posting 17 points. The three players contributed 51 of West Virginia’s 67 points in the game.
TCU (6-13, 0-8) in their last game fell to No. 18 Iowa State by 40 points, losing 75-35. The Horned Frogs shot just 23% from the field in the game, and 13% from three. They also had 19 turnovers.
West Virginia has faced TCU once already this season, hosting the Horned Frogs at the Coliseum on January 10th where they defeated them 77-45. Senior guard Madisen Smith led the Mountaineers with 18 points in that contest, with JJ Quinerly and Savannah Samuel also joining Smith in double figures. The Mountaineers held TCU to 31% shooting in the game, as well as just 8% from three.
TCU is looking for their first conference win of the season, as they are the only Big 12 team yet to win a conference game this season.
Sophomore guard JJ Quinerly is leading West Virginia in points per game this season, averaging 13.4 points per contest. Senior guard Madisen Smith is just behind Quinerly, averaging 12.9 points per game.
West Virginia is second in the Big 12 in points allowed per game, allowing just 57.5 points per game, trailing Baylor who leads the conference allowing 57.4. West Virginia leads the conference in turnover margin, averaging 8.06 more turnovers forced than given up.
