Predictions: TCU vs West Virginia

On Saturday, West Virginia will face No. 7 TCU. The Horned Frogs have not beaten the Mountaineers since 2017, and they come in undefeated and in first place in the Big 12. The Mountaineers are coming off a 48-10 drubbing against Texas Tech. Our staff picks who we think will win.

Ashley O’Brien: West Virginia is again in a position where they badly need a win and have historically played TCU fairly well. The Horned Frogs are thriving under their new head coach Sonny Dykes and come to Morgantown hoping for the same team that played poorly last week in Lubbock. At this point, I’m feeling like I need to continue to be an eternal optimist about this team, and WVU shows up to not disappoint a noon Homecoming crowd while shocking TCU with a loss.

Wesley Shoemaker: Every single reason points to TCU winning this game, and that is exactly why they won’t win on Saturday. The Mountaineers cannot play any worse than they played last Saturday and a noon start can only help West Virginia it seems. Hopefully fans show up and I think JT Daniels puts on a show. The West Virginia defense will battle and undefeated TCU will not be able to pull off another late game comeback. The Mountaineers win somehow, someway.

WVU 38, TCU 37

Aaron Parker: The West Virginia Mountaineers are at a crucial point in the season. Sitting at 3-4 and coming off an embarrassing 48-10 loss to Texas Tech, the Mountaineers will need a strong rebound to show some toughness, grit, and character. TCU has been an impressive team thus far, sitting at 7-0 under first year head coach Sonny Dykes. I think the Horned Frogs have overachieved a bit, but they are still a very dangerous team. I think this game will be a little sloppier than TCU would like, and I think that will allow WVU to hang around. However, I think TCU’s efficient offense will prevail in the third quarter to get the job done on the road.

Matt Natriello: The Mountaineers did not show up to Lubbock, and TCU continued their scorching start to the season against Kansas State last week. JT Daniels played his worst game as a Mountaineer against Texas Tech and WVU will need him to play much better if they want to keep up the Horned Frogs offense.

TCU 45, WVU 28

Tyler Prusina: WVU will be playing an undefeated TCU team in Morgantown. For the majority of the season the Mountaineers defense has kept them from being a dominate force in the big 12. If the secondary keeps making the same mistakes it will be hard for them to take down this kind of TCU team.
