Geno Smith shines as Seahawks beat Broncos in week one

The headline on Monday night was the return of former Seattle Seahawk Russell Wilson to play his former team in week one of the NFL season. Current Seahawk quarterback and former West Virginia Mountaineer Geno Smith would steal the show, leading his team to a 17-16 upset win over the Denver Broncos.

Smith got off to a hot start, finishing with only one incompletion in the first half. Smith would throw for 164 yards and two touchdowns in the first half on 17-for-18 passing.

Smith would continue his success in the second half, as he finished the night passing for 195 yards and two touchdowns, while completing 23 of his 28 attempted passes. Smith would finish with a quarterback rating of 119.5 and had some thoughts on his play after the game.

“They wrote me off, I ain’t write back though” Smith said after the game.

His former head coach at West Virginia Dana Holgorsen chimed in on Smith’s performance, tweeting how he was proud of his former quarterback.
