With the addition of offensive coordinator Graham Harrell to West Virginia’s coaching staff, fans can expect to see a less conservative offense compared to last year, according to sophomore wide receiver Kaden Prather.
Following a successful spring game, Prather said that there was “no question” the offense will take a lot of shots down the field this fall.
“It’s going to be more exciting,” said Prather, crediting Harrell for the improvement of the receivers in the offseason.
In Saturday’s spring game, Prather earned 43 yards for the blue team. Bryce Ford-Wheaton and Sam James also impressed with a combined 154 yards.
“We’ve had a lot of deep balls this spring,” Prather said. “We’ve been working the over-the-shoulder ball a lot this spring because we know we can go up and catch it.”
Prather also said that the receivers have gotten faster in the offseason under the coaching of Mike Joseph, strength and conditioning coach for the Mountaineers. Prather, along with several other players, credited him as “the best in the business.”
As Prather returns for his sophomore year, he looks to do something special for the Mountaineers. Last year, he played in 12 games for WVU, finishing with 12 catches for 175 yards.
This year, Prather has a different mindset entering the 2022 season.
“I was more of sponge last year, sitting back soaking up the knowledge,” he said. “Now, I feel like I can be my own guy around here and do things my way, but not selfishly.”
