Ben McDougal wins performer of the week

West Virginia baseball continued its incredible season last weekend with a series sweep over UCF. Junior left-hander Ben McDougal had a great series in relief for the Mountaineers and was named the @ReBuilders247 performer of the week.

McDougal began his career at WVU Potomac State in 2023 before transferring to West Virginia in the offseason. He has been used sparingly to start the year, but proved in two showings last weekend that he deserves to be included more.

He began his weekend on Saturday as one of the many relief pitchers in the 15-10 victory, where he had the best performance of the day for the Mountaineers. He finished with 2.2 innings pitched, two hits allowed, and no earned runs.

It was a completely different story in the third and final game of the series on Sunday. After Jack Karstonas pitched for nearly seven innings, McDougal was brought in to finish the game. He did just that with 2.2 innings pitched and zero hits allowed. In a 4-3 game, he completely shut down the Knights’ offense, leading to WVU’s fourth consecutive series sweep.

McDougal is just another pitcher that head coach Steve Sabins has full trust in. With a complete pitching staff from top to bottom, the Mountaineers are poised to have a deep postseason run.
