West Virginia assistant basketball coach DerMarr Johnson thanked West Virginia in a post to his Instagram story Thursday following the program’s decision not to bring back the coaching staff for the upcoming season.
“Thank you WV,” Johnson wrote.
DerMarr Johnson initially joined the West Virginia coaching staff midway through the 2022-23 season. Josh Eilert opted to keep him around in the aftermath of Bob Huggins’ resignation.
Johnson played college basketball under Huggins at Cincinnati and was a first-round draft pick in the 2000 NBA Draft. He was previously the Director of Player Development at Cincinnati prior to joining the West Virginia coaching staff.
