49ers invite Ty French to rookie mini-camp

One season in the FBS was enough to draw attention for Ty French.

WVU’s former SPUR received an invite to the San Francisco 49ers’ rookie mini-camp, the university announced on Sunday. Joining offensive lineman Nick Malone, French is the second Mountaineer to receive such an invite.

French played just one year at WVU after four seasons at Gardner-Webb. In those four years, French made the All-Big South Conference First Team every season and won the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.

Unlike many of French’s teammates, the aspiring defensive edge has not signed a contract with San Francisco, but the mini-camp tryout opens the doors to a potential NFL roster spot down the line.
