West Virginia Volleyball opened up the season by going 2-1 at the College of Charleston Tournament in Charleston, South Carolina, this weekend.
The Mountaineers won on Friday against Le Moyne 3-0, lost on Saturday afternoon to Davidson 3-0, then won Saturday evening against the host College of Charleston 3-1.
Against Le Moyne, West Virginia won the first and third sets handedly 25-10 and 15-15 respectively, while the second one was won in closer fashion 25-19.
West Virginia had a .381 hitting percentage and had a total of 46 kills, led by outside hitter Bailey Miller and middle blocker Maddy McGath with eight apiece. The Mountaineers also had 40 digs, led by libero Camilla Covas with 10.
Against Davidson, West Virginia was competitive throughout but lost the three sets 25-21, 25-19, and 25-17 in that order.
The Mountaineers had a .259 hitting percentage, 35 kills, and 29 digs. Outside hitter Bailey Miller led the team with 11 kills and 10 digs.
Against College of Charleston, West Virginia was involved in a high-scoring affair. They lost the first set 32-30, then won the next three 27-25, 36-34, and 25-18 in that order.
The Mountaineers had a .232 hitting percentage, 79 kills, and 79 digs. Outside hitter Bailey Miller once again led the team with 28 kills, while libero Camilla Covas led the team with 27 digs.
Bailey Miller and outside hitter Hailey Green both earned all-tournament team honors at the College of Charleston Tournament.
West Virginia Volleyball will be back in action again when they make a visit to the Duke/North Carolina Tournament starting on Thursday, August 31 against North Carolina at 6 p.m. on the ACC Network on ESPN. The Mountaineers will also face Loyola on Friday and Duke on Saturday.
