Bryce Ford-Wheaton joined Dante Stills in participating in the annual NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this weekend.
After a standout career at WVU that saw him finish with 143 receptions for 1,867 yards and 15 touchdowns over four seasons, Ford-Wheaton declared for the draft at the conclusion of the 2022 season.
All players did interviews with the media prior to the workouts on the field. Ford-Wheaton was asked questions such as if he thought people were sleeping on him.
“Oh yeah, I know people are sleeping on me for sure,” Bryce Ford-Wheaton said. “But I’m not worried about that, you know, people slept on me for a long time. So, it’s nothing new, I’m about to wake them up tomorrow.”
He certainly put up some decent combine numbers during his workout on Saturday. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds, tied for the fourth-fastest time among wide receivers.
He was officially listed at 6-foot-4 and 221 pounds after being listed at WVU as 6-foot-3 and 224 pounds. Ford-Wheaton possesses similar size and speed to NFL receivers such as DK Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks.
Another notable combine number of his was a 41-inch vertical jump, tied for the highest mark among wide receivers. Ford-Wheaton also tied for the third-fastest 20-yard shuttle time at 4.15 seconds and had the seventh-fastest 3-cone drill time at 6.97 seconds.
Bryce Ford-Wheaton was known at West Virginia for using his big body to make plays but had issues with drops. During the route running drills portion of the workout, Ford-Wheaton had multiple drops.
He had a Next Gen Stats grade of a 73, which ranked 22nd among wide receivers, as well as a prospect grade from NFL.com of a 5.67. A grade in that range indicates a candidate for bottom or roster or practice squad.
Ford-Wheaton still has the bench press to come on Sunday, then West Virginia is set to have its Pro Day on Monday, March 27.
