WVU Women’s Soccer Schedule Preview

The West Virginia Mountaineers womens soccer team is getting ready to kick off their season, so let’s take a look at the schedule for the Mountaineers.

The women Mountaineers will open their season on Thursday, August 10th with the Backyard Brawl against Pitt, an exhibition match. The official schedule will begin exactly a week later on August 18th with a non-conference match against Indiana at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

The Mountaineers will play 10 matches at home, including the exhibition against Pitt, with four of them coming against conference opponents. They will open the season with nine non-conference opponents, including Indiana, Clemson, Penn State and Auburn.

Here is what head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown had to say about the teams non-conference schedule

“Once again this year, our non-conference schedule is one that will test our team right off the bat. It will be a good combination of familiar and unfamiliar opponents to lead us right into our hunt for a Big 12 crown when conference play begins.”

After officially opening the season at home against Indiana, the Mountaineers will stay home to face Saint Joseph’s on August 21st, then travel to University Park for their first road game against Penn State, then return home to play Saint Francis on August 28th.

Their next two games will be on the road, as they take on Auburn on September 1st, then stay in Alabama to take on Samford on the 4th.

Then, they will return to Morgantown to take on Clemson on September 8th, and Bucknell on the 11th, before traveling to Washington D.C. to conclude non-conference play on the 17th.

Conference play will kick off with a two game road trip, traveling to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech on September 22nd, then Ames on the 25th to face the Iowa State Cyclones.

After a five day break, the Mountaineers will get to play their first conference home game against the Kansas Jayhawks on September 30th, before returning to the road on October 6th to face TCU in Fort Worth.

Then a two game home stand for the Mountaineers, with Texas on October 13th and Baylor on the 16th at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

Then comes the final road stand of the season, with Oklahoma State on October 20th, and staying in Oklahoma to take on the Sooners on the 23rd.

The final game of the regular season will be played at Dick Dlesk on the 27th, Senior Night for the Mountaineers, against the Kansas State Wildcats.

Last season West Virginia finished 10-5-5, their 22md straight season with at least 10 wins, but missed the NCAA tournament. They will look to improve on that and make the tournament this season.
