JJ Quinerly just completed potentially her last career game in the WVU Coliseum, and she did not disappoint. She ended with 38 points, which ties the school record while shooting 16/21 from the field.
West Virginia defeated Utah by a score of 75-46, bringing them to 16-0 at home this season. It is only the fourth time this has happened in the history of the program.
“We came into the game with a lot of confidence. As soon as that tip ball goes up, we smell that blood and we are ready to go,” Quinerly said after the game.
She could not hide the smile on her face as she talked about what the program has meant to her.
“I am so glad to have this group of people who support me; my teammates, coaches, fanbase, and everybody. I am definitely grateful I stayed here all four years. It feels great to leave a legacy like I always wanted to do,” she said.
Quinerly has been through three coaching changes with the Mountaineers, but has never lost hope in the program and its fans.
“I know that this town is going to have my back no matter what. If I ever come back and need some help with something, I know somebody will have my back,” she said.
JJ Quinerly is a name that will never be forgotten in West Virginia. She helped change the women’s basketball program and is one of the best scorers of all time.
The Mountaineers will have one more game before preparing for the Big 12 tournament. They will face Cincinnati on Mar. 1 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
