WVU Gymnastics suffers fifth season loss at Bowling Green

Following a third-place loss in Kentucky, the Mountaineers enter a two-game losing streak in their regular season meets.

Facing Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green and Fisk University; West Virginia gained a small lead in opening events but slowly faltered.

The Mountaineers placed first in both beam and floor events, scoring a 49.275 and 48.95, respectively.

Several players furthermore achieved career highs during the vault event, which saw the Mountaineers score a 48.50, tallying them to 146.725.

Abbie Pierson, Julia Brown, Kiana Lewis and Jurnee Lane all scored above a 9.5, aiding the Mountaineers to a sizeable margin from opposing teams. Although a promising start, bars would be the team’s lowest-scored event, garnering a 47.975.

Behind Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green, the Mountaineers placed third with a total of 194.70. Following the meet, West Virginia is currently ranked No. 52 overall, with their floor squad at No. 45.

The Mountaineers are next in action at home on Feb. 18, facing Iowa State. This will be apart of the Beauty and the Beast Event for WVU, along with the Mountaineer Wrestling team.
