On Saturday, former WVU great Chuck Howley will receive his gold jacket, entering the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
Howley, a Warwood, WV native, is one of the nine former NFL players that will be enshrined in the Hall of Fame over the weekend, joining counterparts Joe Thomas, Darrrelle Revis, Ronde Barber, Zach Thomas, DeMarcus Ware, Don Coryell, Joe Klecko, and Ken Riley.
Howley made NFL history in Super Bowl 5 by becoming the only player in the league’s existence to win Super Bowl MVP honors on the losing team. In a 16-13 loss to the Baltimore Colts, the Dallas Cowboy star linebacker intercepted two passes from quarterback Johnny Unitas.
Howley is known at West Virginia University as more than just a star on the gridiron, excelling in track and field, wrestling, gymnastics, and swimming while in Morgantown.
Along with winning Super Bowl MVP in 1971, Howley was a six-time Pro-Bowler during the course of his professional career, along with five different All-Pro finishes.
Howley and his counterparts will officially be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday, August 5 at noon ET in Canton, Ohio.
