West Virginia’s offensive line will remain home to NFL-caliber talent this fall.

Just two days after center Zach Frazier officially moved on from the Mountaineers to the Pittsburgh Steelers and one day after Doug Nester did the same to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, eyes turned to WVU’s next star OL prospect, Wyatt Milum.

Milum, a rising senior offensive tackle for the Mountaineers, earned early praise by 2025 draft experts on Sunday. In CBS Sports’ first 2025 mock draft, Ryan Wilson had Milum going 24th overall in the first round.

The projection sets high expectations for Milum, who earned an All-Big 12 Second Team selection in 2023, despite his name being absent from all other major publications’ way-too-early mocks.

Wilson described Milum as “an athletic tackle who plays with good technique as both a run and pass blocker,” saying he “has the potential to take his game to another level with a strong 2024 season.”

Approaching his fourth year in the program, Milum has mostly taken the expected route of a college player. Milum was not redshirted, nor was he given an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In three seasons with the Mountaineers, Milum has played 35 games and never missed more than two in one year. His play time makes a clear impact, as in 337 pass block snaps last year, Milum allowed zero sacks.

If Milum matches the CBS projection, he would be the first Mountaineer selected in the first round since safety Karl Joseph in 2016 by the Raiders. Joseph is currently a free agent but has seven years of experience on an NFL roster.

Whether or not Milum can surpass Frazier as WVU’s highest draft pick since 2016 is unknown, but as the 2024 fall season approaches, he has plenty of room for his draft stock to rise.

2024’s first look of West Virginia’s potential first round pick will be August 31 in Morgantown, as the Mountaineers welcome the Penn State Nittany Lions.
