Houston head coach Dana Holgorsen will see some level of familiarity against West Virginia on Thursday night.
Holgorsen spent eight seasons at West Virginia, including helping bridge the gap from the Big East to the Big 12. In those eight seasons Holgorsen went a combined 61-41, which was the second-most wins a head coach won in WVU history.
“This is the first ever meeting between West Virginia and Houston. First one ever. I’ve been in this situation a lot where you leave a place and you play them and all that. The best way I’ve figured out how to approach it is turn the phone off and go to work,” Holgorsen said.
“This is for the fans. The fans get into that, teh fans appreciate that. I enjoyed my time at West Virginia there’s no question. A lot of really, really, really good people and I know a lot of them are coming. Should maek for an exciting game. At the end of the day it’s about me doing me job and getting our team ready to play.”
Holgorsen also spoke on the fact of having multiple former Mountaineer players on his roster at Houston.
“It’s going to keep happening more and more and more with this transfer thing. It’s going to become a little bit more common so tp speak but I will talk to those guys. It’s no different than me coaching against somebody that I’ve known for a long time,” Holgorsen said. “When you get into the game, it’s just about the game. You let your families and the fanbase enjoy it then after wards you give some high fives, you shake some hands, and then it’s a memory.”
