Colorado made the decision to return to the Big 12 in 2024, and with the Pac-12 in danger of being broken up, Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah decided to follow suit and leave the Pac-12.
With them joining, there is history for some opponents and little history with others.
West Virginia has never faced Arizona in football and has never faced Arizona State or Colorado in basketball.
In football, West Virginia has gone 1-1 all time against Colorado. They lost on the road 17-14 in overtime in 2008, then won at home 35-24 in 2009.
The Mountaineers also have a 1-1 record against Arizona State. They lost on the road 42-7 in 1979, then won 43-42 in the Cactus Bowl in the 2015 season.
West Virginia football has lost both of their previous all-time meetings against Utah. Both matchups were bowl games, with Utah winning the 1964 Liberty Bowl 32-6 and the 2017 Heart of Dallas Bowl 30-14.
West Virginia has gone 2-3 all time against Arizona in basketball. They lost in 1950, 1968, and 1992, while winning in 1948 and in the 2008 March Madness tournament.
The Mountaineers have lost all six of their previous meetings with Utah in basketball. Those meeting came in the 1947 National Invitational Tournament, 1956, 1961, 1974, 1976, and in the 1998 March Madness Tournament.
With Texas and Oklahoma leaving for the SEC in 2024, that will put the membership number at 16 in the Big 12 Conference with the new additions from the Pac-12.
